Kaizen Photos! Now Help Me Write this Blog EntryToo shamefully busy to write very much lately, so we'll use pictures instead of words to educate and amuse. Picture #1: Brad Schmidt Fearless leader of the Japan Kaikaku Experience. Here he is giving tips on how to stay or get out of trouble using a few Japanese phrases. Picture #2: People first Here is Toyota's "Developing People First" philosophy explained in English, Chinese and Japanese. Picture #3: Toy cars
Picture #4: Kaizen idea at paint line This clever system was spotted near a paint line during one of our factory visits in Japan. Picture #5: The sensei
Picture #6: Respect for people Here is Toyota's "Respect for People" philosophy explained in English, Chinese and Japanese. Picture # 7: Harmony As part of every trip to see brilliant examples of lean in operation we include some time to relax. By Jon Miller - March 26, 2008 5:22 PM |

Picture 3. I see fixed position stop position whereby once the andon is pulled (little rope hanging in picture) the car moves to the red line (can't see this in pic but it was red in the Kyushi plant I recently toured) and stops. In other words, the car does not stop immediately which was news to me. The goal is for the worker and supervisor to fix the issue before the car makes it to the red line. Also, I see the supervisor roaming about in the picture. At Toyota, the supervisor is not only on the gemba... he is totally engaged. They help when needed, replenish materials when needed, etc. Also see all materials at point of use. And of course, the 5S level is flawless (as it is in person). People Development in Farsi Respect for People 4th Picture. It seem that it is a Color Sample Album. the best idea in the paint shops. one of our workers suggested such an idea and we made it the paint shop. it was wonderful! Dear Jon It looks like Picture 4 is some sort of heijunka wheel. I can make out the numbers at the top that I would guess are hours and the vertical boxes are probably either the color mix (given that it is a paint line) or the color coded cards for the route runners. Or I could be completely wrong. Picture #7: Keeping in the spirit of the blog: Sit and "Lean" on stone "Developing People First" - Hungarian translation Szó szerint: Kissé magyarosítva: Ez a filozófia alapján a Toyota folyamatosan dolgozik alkalmazottai fejlesztésén, tudásuk bővítésén. "Developing People First" - Spanish translation Hi Brad. Hope to see you sometime in Japan. "Developing People First" - Portuguese translation (from Portugal) [somewhat different from Brazilian Portuguese] "Desenvolver as pessoas em primeiro lugar" "Respect for People" Não existem limites, até aos quais se pode desenvolver a sabedoria humana. [this last one was tricky...it originated quite some discussion among our team] Regards from Portugal #1 Hello Brad ! #2 In French #3 * poka yoke (yellow lines, colored boxes, ) #4 My try: in this line there are several painting machine, several kind of parts to paint and several layers to paint. Every operator is able to perform all these stages (heijunka). This is a card store. Each card gives which piece, which layer and which painting should be process. When a part comes to you, you take the card attached to it, put it on the right place on the card store, take the next card on the store (at its right), follows the instruction written on the new card, and attach it to the part supporting material. "Developing People First" translatin in Turkish as follows: "Önce İnsanı Geliştir" Üretimi yapan insan olduğundan, onlar gelişmeden üretim imkansızdır. Pic 6 in Polish: Nie ma granic dla rozwoju ludźkiej mądrości. Wewnątrz firmy ciagle dążymy do osiągnięcia wzajemnego zrozumienia, wypełnienia wspólnych odpowiedzialności (obowiązków) i połączenia idywidualnych sił naszych pracowników. "Szacunek dla ludzi" jest postawą, która w największym stopniu bierze pod uwagę umiejętność ludzi do myślenia. Pic3 in Czech Protožejsou to právě lidé, kteří vyrábějí věci, je nemožné vyrábět pokud nejsou rozvíjeni lidé.
