Wow.

Jon, I too had to post that video on my blog. And wow is an understatement. I was really waiting for Paul to say that he would take all congressmen (and women), give them pen and paper and make them stand in the circle!

Good post.

I hold the same views on lean and have consulted on it for twenty years. Mr. Akers is a refreshing company executive and Senate candidate, but I'm discouraged to see him join the Party of No. For over a year Republicans have defended the our country's expensive and inefficient healthcare system. I also shudder to think Fox is becoming the network of Lean, because their unfair and unbalanced news has contributed to more ignorance in this country than any single media source. Just follow their irresponsible anti-science "coverage" of global warming. Please also note that Lean is being used within government in many areas, including the US Army, many municipalities, and even the IRS. God save us from politicizing lean. Meanwhile, I'll be voting for Patty Murray.

Thanks for a refreshing comment, Tom. It's a pity the one political person talking about Lean Thinking is on the "all government is bad" team.

We live in a country of crazy contradictory political thinking. I'm all for lean, but general against governmental involvment in my life. I think most of the great movements in this country right now are cultual and not political, and while they may need a great preacher to help them spread, I'd rather not see them gain a great politician.

But still, politics in about compromise. Maybe I can't choose to keep the government out of my life, but I can help influence what they are doing while they are here.

I just discovered that Paul Akers speaks against the scientific evidence for global warming. This is really astounding. A foundation of good lean operations is encouraging all employees to test hypotheses as they solve problems. So is Mr. Akers saying that more than 6,000 global climatologists worried about humans causing *and accelerating* global warming aren't testing hypotheses??

"Climate researchers 'are not scientists. They are people with a political agenda,' Akers said, calling global warming 'part of the natural cycle' of Earth heating and cooling." From today's Seattle Times at
www.bit.ly/leandunce

Republicans used to be the party of the environment. Earth Day began, and the EPA was formed, during the Nixon administration. Where does this ostrich thinking that denies the scientific evidence come from, and why is it reinforced for political gain? "But I saw it on FoxNews" is not a good answer...

Hi Tom

I don't agree with my friend Paul on this point. The scientific evidence seems overwhelming. However, I am open to the possibility that some or all of climate change is part of earth's natural cycle. That doesn't mean we shouldn't try to minimize damage from it.

The history of science (as well as politics) is full of people who believe one set of facts over another and are eventually proved wrong.

I find it ironic that anyone running for political office can claim another group of people are 'not scientists' because of a political agenda...
